I'm Kristian. I'm from Malmö, Sweden, and I've lived in Copenhagen, Zurich, Shanghai, Mexico City, Spain, New Mexico, and Massachusetts. I have no fixed home, and I've stopped pretending otherwise. The work travels with me.
I studied human-computer interaction and design theory at university around the turn of the millennium, back when the field was still deciding what to call itself. Then I spent years in copywriting, brand strategy, and design systems. That combination is where my process comes from: I'm not an engineer, but I've spent my whole working life on how systems relate and how humans meet them. Language models closed the remaining gap. So now I direct software directly. I'm the designer, the creator, always the director, and the models hold the other roles: they produce, they review, they test.
Prylar is the Swedish word for the small things you keep around because they're useful. That's what this site will become: free tools for the Mac (and, in time, CLAP audio plugins for Bitwig, at their own address). But there's a longer arc underneath. Everything here, the workflow tools, the dictation app, the processes themselves, comes out of working with AI closely enough to understand it deeply, and building the instruments that a much larger, much longer dream will need. The tools are how I walk toward it.
Everything here follows the same principles: free forever, open source under GPL-3.0, local-first, your files as the source of truth, no accounts, no telemetry, no one holding your keys. If a product of mine ever needs a login, something has gone wrong. And free is deliberate. It opens conversations: people try things, people see what's possible, and the right doors open on their own.
Everything here is built and tested on the one Mac I own. That is why the platform line always says macOS: it is the only platform I can certify honestly, not a judgment about yours. The code is GPL-3.0, so the port is already yours to make. Build it, send a pull request, and I will take it seriously. Or send me the machine, and I will (try to) do the port myself.
